Understanding Your Home Screen & Navigation

Table of Contents

When you log into Business Pulse, the first screen you’ll see is your Home Screen. This is your main workspace where you can ask questions, view answers, and move between different chats. Think of it as your command center: everything you need to explore your data, manage saved queries, and adjust your settings is right here.

In this article, we’ll walk you through each part of the home screen step by step, so you always know where to find things and how to use them.

Left Panel: Chat Navigation

On the left side of your screen, you’ll see the Chat Navigation panel. This is where you manage your conversations.

  • New Chat button: Click this whenever you want to start a fresh query. Each new chat creates a separate space, so your questions and answers stay organized.
  • Recent Chats list: This shows the conversations you’ve had before. You can click on any chat to reopen it and continue right where you left off.

This panel makes it easy to switch between ongoing discussions without losing context

Main Workspace: Chat Screen

The center of your screen is the Chat Workspace, where you interact directly with Business Pulse. It’s divided into two main parts:

1. Questions (Chat Area)

  • Chat area: Type your question in the text box at the bottom of the screen.
  • Send button: Click the arrow to submit your query.
  • Save question: Right next to your typed question, you’ll see a star icon. Use this to save important questions so you can easily find and reuse them later.

2. Answers (Response Cards)

  • Answer cards: Business Pulse responds in clear, structured cards that can include summaries, breakdowns, key insights or visualizations.
  • Feedback buttons: Each response has a like and dislike option. This feedback helps improve the accuracy of business pulse over time.
  • Chart variations: When responses include data visualizations, you can switch between different chart types (e.g., bar chart, pie chart) to view your data in the way that makes the most sense for you.

This layout keeps the flow simple: ask a question, get an answer, refine or save it as needed.

Data Model Selector

The Data Model Selector (dropdown menu at the top of your chat screen) lets you choose which dataset or business area your query applies to.

  • What it does: Switch between data contexts such as Marketing, Sales, or HR.
  • Why it matters: Business Pulse tailors answers to the schema you select. For example, if you’re in the Marketing Schema, your questions will pull insights from marketing performance data only.
  • How to use it:
    1. Click the dropdown menu at the top.
    2. Choose the schema you want to query.
    3. Ask your question and results will automatically be filtered by that data source.

Tip: You can switch schemas anytime without losing your chat history. It’s a quick way to move from one department’s data to another without starting a new conversation.

Saved Queries Panel (Starred Items)

The Saved Queries panel helps you quickly access the questions you use most often, so you don’t have to retype them every time.

  • Saving queries: When you ask a question in the chat, click the star icon next to it. This will save the query for future use.
  • Accessing saved queries: Open the Saved Queries panel (from the star icon in the top bar or beside the chat area) to see all your saved items in one place.
  • Reusing queries: Saved queries can be used across all your conversations, making it easy to rerun your most important or recurring questions.

This feature is especially helpful if you track the same metrics regularly, like revenue trends, marketing spend, or campaign performance.

Top Navigation & Profile Menu

In the top-right corner of your screen, you’ll find the Profile Menu, which gives you access to account and workspace settings.

  • Profile: View and update your personal details.
  • Upgrade Plan: See your current subscription and explore upgrade options if you need more features.
  • Help: Direct link to the knowledge base and support resources.
  • Connectors: View your current data connections, including linked schemas, schema descriptions, column definitions, and the knowledge base.
    • Based on your access level, some users can also edit the knowledge base and modify column definitions.
    • Note: Users cannot directly link CRMs or other data sources from this page. All new data connections are handled during the onboarding process by the Business Pulse team.
  • Dark Mode: Switch between light and dark themes for easier viewing.
  • Sign Out: Safely log out of your account when you’re done.

This menu is where you’ll manage your account and access key resources, so it’s a good place to get familiar with early on.

Continue Exploring Suggestions

Just above your message bar, you’ll see the Continue Exploring section. This feature provides AI-generated question suggestions based on your recent queries and data context.

  • Purpose: Helps you discover related insights without having to think of the next question yourself.
  • How it works:
    • Business Pulse automatically suggests follow-up questions related to your current topic.
    • You can scroll through multiple options using the arrow buttons on either side.
    • Click any suggestion to instantly run that query.
  • Why it’s useful: It guides your exploration, surfaces new angles, and helps you uncover deeper insights from your data faster.

Tip: These suggestions adapt dynamically as you switch between schemas or topics, so you’ll always see questions that fit your current context.

Footer / Input Bar

At the bottom of your chat screen is the Input Bar, where you interact directly with Business Pulse.

  • Question box: Type your query here (e.g., “Show me last month’s sales by region”).
  • Send button: Click the arrow icon to submit your query.
  • Star button: Save the question to your Saved Queries panel, so you can easily reuse it later.

The input bar is your main tool for asking questions and driving insights. It’s designed to be as simple as typing into a chat window.
